FAQs
What time of day should I take activated charcoal? Should I take it with or without food?
Activated charcoal is best taken on an empty stomach when using it for detoxing. Any time of the day is generally fine. Activated charcoal may also be used after eating or drinking something that normally doesn’t sit well with you. Be sure to ask your doctor if you are taking medications when the best time to take activated charcoal in relation to your medications would be.
Is activated charcoal appropriate for children?
Doses up to 10g of activated charcoal are often used for children in emergency rooms, however, detoxing needs to be approached with care and should be overseen by a qualified healthcare professional. We recommend working with your child’s provider in order to determine if an activated charcoal supplement is right for them.
Can I take activated charcoal if I’m allergic to tree nuts?
Scientifically speaking, coconuts are not tree nuts, they are in fact fruits classified as a “drupe.” Other drupes include palm fruit, peaches, berries, plums, and apricots. However, because the FDA has lumped coconuts in a group with other tree nuts for labeling purposes, etc., we are required to list them as a potential allergen. In fact, true coconut allergy is actually extremely rare with only a few cases reported in the medical literature. If you have a diagnosed tree nut allergy, please speak with your healthcare provider before consuming any products containing coconut.
